The Government of Karnataka and Department of Collegiate Education, with the aim to bring quality education at the college level within the reach of a common man, established the Government First Grade College in Belagavi, with a Vide Notification No: DCE/ED/NC/2006/07. dated 03-06-2006. Colle began its journey of serving education to students from the academic year 2006-07. Prof. S. S. Khot, Grade- I Principal, took over the charge as the first Principal of the college. Under his leadership, the college was able to obtain the land at the heart of the city.
